Five months after I began going back to school, we ended up pulling our daughters out of public school in order to homeschool. Mid-year. It was a bit chaotic at the start, but it felt like the right thing to do, and I also felt that it was important that I continue the the educational path I had also begun for myself. Our house literally became a house of learning.
I love making things to help my kids love learning, and when I finally learned how to use Adobe Creative suite, it was a dream come true! Our first day of homeschooling, we painted a poster with our new school’s name, and I took a photo of it and made it into a logo.
When we began to homeschool, the first thing I made was fun binder covers using Heritage Makers. I also made some "cultural passports" for fun as we learn about other countries. I used Publisher to make paper dolls to look like my older two girls when we first began. I used Illustrator to make a paper doll for my youngest, and it was so much better. I now use Illustrator to make paper doll outfits from different countries that we learn about. I create Prezi presentations to teach my girls about different countries and their various cultures. I use Adobe Illustrator and InDesign to create worksheets and lapbooks for my girls for language arts.
I’m obsessed with organization and planning, and I already used Microsoft Excel for lots of things. It felt natural to use Excel to get organized for homeschooling, too.
